The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is proud to present Cancer Incidence in the Caribbean, Volume I—the first comprehensive regional report compiling population-based cancer incidence data from across the Caribbean. This landmark publication represents a major step forward in strengthening cancer surveillance and advancing evidence-based decision-making in the region.
Developed through CARPHA’s IARC Caribbean Cancer Registry Hub, part of the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (GICR) led by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the report brings together data from cancer registries in Bermuda, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago. It reflects the dedication and collaboration of registry teams across the Region, whose contributions have made this important achievement possible.
As cancer continues to be a leading cause of illness and death in the Caribbean, access to reliable data is critical. This report provides valuable insights into cancer patterns and trends, supporting countries in designing targeted prevention and control strategies, strengthening national cancer plans, and guiding policy, planning, and resource allocation.
The publication also highlights the essential role of population-based cancer registries as national assets for understanding disease burden and improving health outcomes. It underscores the importance of sustained investment in cancer surveillance systems and continued regional collaboration.
CARPHA acknowledges the invaluable contributions of participating registries and the critical support of partners, including the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and IARC in the development of this report.
