Liaison Update: College of American Pathologists (CAP) PERT

CAP Pathology Electronic Reporting (PERT) meeting was held in San Diego February 2nd and 3rd. Highlights of the PERT meeting included:

• 2025 Protocol Release – Quarter 1 release is scheduled for March 19, 2025, and will include nine protocols including: Melanoma Biopsy, Melanoma Resection, Wilm’s Resection, Testis, Ureter/Renal Pelvis Resection and Biopsies, Breast Biomarker for very low HER-2, new Endocrine PITNET (Pituitary and Neuroendocrine Tumors) and new Endocrine PPGL (Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma).

Release dates are scheduled for:
Quarter 2: June 18, 2025
Quarter 3: September 17, 2025
Quarter 4: December 17, 2025

• An overview of the Single Source Product (SSP) with hands on experience for each of us was provided to show how editing of protocols is performed by CAP staff with the hope that some PERT members would be interested and available, with additional training provided, to help in future reviews.
• Brainstorming sessions on the following topics: Use of AI with Cancer Protocols, Use of DigiPath/Whole Slide Image in Cancer Protocols, and Guidance to Vendors for Data Extraction. Lively dialog took place and further discussion is needed.
