CiNA Statistics and CiNA*Explorer Update

In June 2024, the 2017-2021 CiNA cancer statistics were updated in CiNA*Explorer: https://apps.naaccr.org/explorer. This update reflects the final migration from our historic, flagship product (the CiNA Monographs) to the CiNA*Explorer online query system. Like our old CiNA Monographs, CiNA*Explorer presents mortality, survival, and prevalence statistics as well as cancer incidence.

CiNA*Explorer presents CiNA statistics in an interactive, queriable manner and can be accessed under the On-line Cancer Data section of the Data & Statistics Tab on our website. • When using CiNA*Explorer, a user begins with the Get Started with a Registry. It is important to know that Canada does not report race or summary stage. To obtain statistics by race/ethnicity or stage distribution, S. Combined must be selected. Mortality is new to CiNA*Explorer this year, and data are presented on the Incidence/Mortality Tab under 5-year rates. At this time, mortality statistics are only for U.S. registries and will not be available unless U.S. Combined is selected.

• Next a user moves to Choose a Cancer Site. All sites combined and standard, individual sites (listed alphabetically) can be selected from this drop-down list. ICCC cancer sites for pediatric cancers can be found at the end of the standard site list (listed by ICCC group). At the top of the list, as a sub-section of All Cancer Sites Combined, a set of risk-based cancer groups can be selected, such as HPV-associated or obesity-associated cancers. And new this year, breast cancer subgroups can be found as a sub-section of breast cancer.

• Once registry and site are selected, users can move through various statistics tabs (Rates by Year, 5-Year Rates, Age-specific Rates, Stage Distribution, 5-Year Survival, Prevalence). The available statistics will be dependent upon the cancer site selected. For instance, the main tab Stage Distribution is only available for screenable cancers.

• Finally, a user can use the sub-tab Compare By list to stratify by a specific race/ethnicity or age, or choose incidence vs mortality. Other sub-tabs provide additional comparator statistics including Incidence/Mortality, Race/Ethnicity, Age, and NAACCR Registry.

• For queries with a lot of data points, if more than 10 registries are selected for instance, only the data table will be presented. Otherwise, the default presentation is a graph with a secondary tab for the data table. Graphs and tables can be downloaded and a link to the specific statistic can be shared.
