NAACCR Kicks Off RDU Epi ‘Hour’

The Research and Data Use Steering Committee (RDU) recently launched the NAACCR Epi ‘Hour.’ These are information networking and training sessions designed to meet the Research and Data Use Goal 2: Increase the use of CiNA and central cancer registry data, Objective 1: Support technical competency in all aspects of CiNA and central cancer registry data use and research.

These on-line sessions are currently scheduled quasi monthly on Mondays in the 2:00 pm Eastern time slot. The meetings are structured into three parts—an initial, small group networking activity, followed by a peer-led training or discussion session, and culminated by RDU updates and other communication. They are intended to increase communication among NAACCR members, provide RDU-tailored training, and promote professional relationships among cancer registry analysts, statisticians, and epidemiologists. The training portion is recorded and re-released through the LMS.

Our Kickoff Epi ‘Hour’ was October 21, 2024. While there was no training portion of the initial session, we had a lively discussion about future topics led by Paige Miller (Texas registry) and Angela Eckstrand (Alberta registry). Our second Epi ‘Hour’ was on December 9 and included a training session on Data Visualization with an overview of Canva and excel templates led by Lena Swander (Wisconsin registry) and Rita Villazana (California registry).

So, I know you are wondering…why the quotes? Well, each Epi ‘Hour’ is actually 90 minutes, and Epi Hour And a Half is a bit of a mouthful. Besides we don’t want to mislead participants, as we make full use of that extra half hour. But don’t worry, we are a fun bunch!
