Happy October!
I want to start by saying my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Helene. I hope everyone is safe and can rebuild. It is at times like this that we all work together.
NAACCR does this in everything we do. We worked together to ensure V24 was implemented, and everyone has what they need for data submissions. The Board has helped Karen Knight transition to the new NAACCR Executive Director. Karen has a solid plan to build relationships with all stakeholders and build on the foundation she already has. The Steering Committees are working on their goals that are in-line with the NAACCR priorities outlined in the 2024-2027 NAACCR Strategic Plan. NAACCR has been working closely with NCRA and NPCR to help with re-establishing reporting by VA hospitals to the central cancer registries. NAACCR also coordinated comments on USCDI+ Cancer Registry data elements and HTI-2. Plans are already underway for the 2025 NAACCR Annual Conference in Hartford CT. The call for abstracts will be released in the coming weeks.
In addition, the Board recently approved the NAACCR Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect (DEIR) statement: NAACCR believes that an enduring commitment to diversity enables excellence, innovation, and transformative action by current and future generations of cancer surveillance professionals. We at NAACCR are actively committed to cultivating a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and respectful community, Working Together to Make Every Cancer Count. The board will be incorporating this philosophy as we move forward in achieving the goals of the Association.
Don’t forget if you have someone your staff that will be retiring there is a new streamlined process to request a NAACCR Resolution in their honor. https://www.naaccr.org/board-resolution-nomination-form/. Also, the Call for Nominations for Board positions is coming soon. So please consider nominating yourself or someone you know. This year we will be looking for nominations for Treasurer and three Representatives at Large.
